On this topic, the question mark originates in the medieval age: monks would mark questions with "QO" which stands for "Quaestio" (no points for guessing what it means). To make it more recognizable they started writing the Q on top of the O and they stylized the former into a swirl and the latter into a point, creating the modern question mark

I remember hearing about this on a British show named “QI” like 10 years ago. I promptly included it in an English essay. My English teacher had never seen it before. I told her what it was and what it symbolised. Cue 5 minutes of her looking on Wikipedia and other sources to find that I was indeed correct and she gave me extra marks for stumping her. One of the few times I have genuinely know more than my teacher

Because you didn’t ask, the correct order is to have the question mark first (“?!” instead of “!?”)

On one side, I can see the appeal for just one symbol to visualise an emotion, it would probably mae a few text messages a bit shorter and may help to save space, but at the same time it is kind of pointless in all those regards. We don’t really need a whole new symbol, the current “!?” Technique works just fine, and it would probably just become a bit of a waste of space on keyboards. And I have heard there’s apparently a debate on wich way the symbol should go, my thoughts is just do whatever, not everything on earth needs to be set a certain way, arguments like these just feel like a waste of time and braincells.
