What is difference between Coding and Programming

This is a tricky question to answer because programming and coding are used interchangeably a lot. So in this video, I have explained the difference between programming and coding with some real life examples.

Great work Jenny! Just to add, programming is logical interpretation of the whole idea which consist of flows, integration and other aspects within program and coding is practical interpretation of it. And not to confuse it with the Application architecture because that is a more broad term.

Coding is converting human readable language into encrypted or random letters/symbols, coding is not always programming, for example DNA encoding and decoding, Computer Codes like CRC, Hamming codes, Checksum etc.
Programming is writing code using a programming language for giving instructions to a machine. Give a look at Coding Theory for more information.

I definitely learned the role of a programmer and a coder. Programming has to do with designing, implementing, debugging and so on. Meanwhile, coder is concerned about the smaller steps that has relation directly to writing the code.

In another perspective by using an analogy, coding could be a few trees in a florest, while the florest as a whole would be the programming. In other words, coding is specific while programming is holistic.

There was a time when an analyst defined the problem for the computer to solve, then a programmer figured out the solution (algorithms) and turned to a coder to create the machine language or possibly memoric code for the computer to run.
