Leaving Religion: Are You Scared Of Hell?

Many people remain Christians because they have a fear of going to hell. Hell is a fictitious place designed to keep people from leaving the religion.

I was a Christian because I didn't wanna go to hell, no one is excited about going to heaven like that

So “he” knows that the flesh is weak and humans often succumb to “sin” but “he” still went ahead and created “hell” then died to keep us out of it.

You should be able to do whatever and still go to heaven after you believe in him. That’s called “Free Grace” Christianity, where they believe once saved always saved and that all you have to do is believe in the gospel for one millisecond and you’re secured no matter what you do next.

That was the last camp in Christianity that I was in before I deconstructed. I still think it’s the most consistent and accurate view if one were to attempt to reconcile all of scripture despite the holes that it also has

Honestly if you think all Christians only serve God bc they fear going to hell. Ur mistaken. I serve God bc of how good he has been to me. We have a relationship, we talk. We have built a bond That’s why we serve him. One benefit is we get to be in heaven with him but we want to go there bc the person we love is there. Relationship makes all the difference in understanding God

I've been questioning my faith for about two years now, and the only thing keeping me from leaving is my fear of hell. Why did God not simply cast Satan out and then end him? Why put the tree of life there? Its not for "free will", because we should've never had " sins" to begin with. How come Jesus knows that we're easily succumbed to 'temptation', and then provides a space for all of the people who "fall into that trap" to be in pain for eternity? Its something he supposedy wants to help us to not do, yet punishes us when we're too weak to resist. Honestly, this is the final kicker for me. If Hell exists, then the bible is a load of shit, because no "loving God" would allow us to go there for simply being sinners. I'm agnostic or whatever the hell.

This is coming from someone who was raised strict because "Jesus wouldnt do that." I could not listen to any sort of music or wear my hair a certain way or go online or hang out with friends for more than an hour or play any type of video games with cursing/blood/murder. I was expected to devote my life to a God that didn't care enough about me to 'help' me resist 'temptation.' I've decided now that I won't ever kill my life to save my soul.
