Ghost Of Tsushima Director’s Cut - Is it Worth The Upgrade?

Ghost Of Tsushima Director’s Cut gives us a native PS5 version, with new upgrades to take advantage of the hardware. But is it enough to make the upgrade?

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is now out, bringing a proper next generation version of Sucker Punch’s open world samurai adventure to the PlayStation 5. This is pretty fascinating as the game already received a PS5 patch last year which let it tap into the extra horsepower of the system. So you might be wondering what a proper PS5 version brings to the table? While it’s still largely the same game there’s a number of improvements that make Ghost of Tsushima Director’s cut the definitive version.

He lied about fast travel being instantaneous because once he fast traveled, two unskippable 5 second ads pop up played in my face so in reality it was 11 seconds

additional there are some new animations for sheath the sword, a few more animations for stealth kills and a new one for blocking arrows, none of the reviewers talked about this

This was a really good review. Accurate, concise and honest. This is the gamespot I subscribed to more than a decade ago. I’m glad you guys are back with quality reviews.

After buying a ps5 and a new tv, compared to my old tv and on ps4 there definitely is a huge improvement, when playing in a complete black space it feels like I’m playing a movie

“Watch me travel across this island here”
Me: proceeds to see an advertisement for 30 seconds..

Is that fast?

I can’t recommend the base game enough. The DLC is well worth it, as well. Sucker Punch gave us lots of free upgrades along the way, and they earned my money. The DLC is a little more of the same, and I’m happy to support it. Needed? No. Wanted? Yes.

Are you kidding me? I’d even pay double for a masterpiece game like this. This game and red dead redemption 2 are the only games that I’d have no problems paying extra to experience that again

I got it for the Ps5 and the sensation using the adaptive trigger while pulling the bow was awesome 👏🏻 🏹🤯🤯🤯

The most important update would be to have a custom slot where I can save and load my lists of customized outfits with a simple scroll wheels like we can in RDR2, instead of going through the menu and pick one by one EVERYTIME I want to change my outfit.

Cause Jin's outfits could play a significant role on the outcome of the mission. And even if they don't, I simply like to dress for the occassion, but I want to do it quickly.

i love the sound of the swords clashing coming out of the dual sense. and when you play the flute, it feels like you are actually holding a playing flute. you feel the vibrations of each note played. so cool

Thank you. I was confused with all of the different editions and needed something to clear it up. Great video!

The 3D audio, dual sense, and haptic features alone are worth the $10 for me. Honestly, I've had a hard time transitioning back to games that don't use the controller features ever since I've played Returnal. Hell Plagues Tale had some great use of it as well. It's insane how noticeable of a difference it makes for gameplay immersion to be honest. At least for me.

I absolutely LOVE the vibration that moves in sync to the wind and matches the frequency and amplitude of the audio. If the wind goes from left to right, your controller does the same when vibrating lol. And if youre galloping and have wind at the same time, the controller combines both the gallop and wind vibrations incredibly well (vibrates with direction of wind while also adding the 'thunk' of the hooves). Then the tension built up in the Triggers while also vibrating with pulses when using the grappling hook to pull down debris....just absolutely love it!

People maybe mad about the $10 upgrade for PS5 but let's be honest here: Ghost of Tsuhima mixed with Legends at release, then gave us NG+ with even MORE content to unlock, was $60. Then you have this DLC (that's got a fair amount of content to say the least) with the PS5 upgrade makes that total price $90. In reality, most publishers would have easily separated Legends into another package and even made some of the cosmetics into microtransactions. Yeah, not much to complain about here lol. I'm willing to support games of this caliber and quality even more.

This game quickly became one of my favs, beautifully rendered and excellent writing, combat and gameplay. I got a hard disk copy of the DC version for PS5-for 25 bucks at my local GameStop and I look forward to replaying with the upgrades and Iki Island expansion.

I just got GoT Director's cut for my PS5 last week. I am a diehard PC fanboy but my god if this isn't the most beautiful game I've ever played. Glad to see the amount of improvement and effort went into that, something I wish (my favorite people) fromsoft did more often.

Also great review man. Very thorough and helped me appreciate the studio all the more. I had no idea I was getting a better experience with the Japanese Dub.

Dammit. Might have to get this/waste 30$ & I just beat the game. This is one of my favorite games of last gen if not my fav. The island alone & improvements are really worth it for this title.

I'm still on the PS4! After the update, the first thing I noticed was the hard seem just a little bit more hard. And everything about the controller was smoother and faster.
Now! I didn't think to take a screenshot at the time, (mainly because I didn't believe what I was seeing. And after trying to interact with it... still found it to be amazing) was a cat curled up on a rock at the hot springs (in Act one, because I decide to replay the game from scratch again after the updated) in two different places. Ha! Besides that thing look more sharp and clearer. And the pace of the game seem faster. I had to really be aware of my reaction time. I'm dam enjoying it. Anyone else seem and cats, or otherwise new?

The haptic feedback in this is incredibly well done, it's one of the best PS5 haptic games in my opinion

It’s probably a good thing I haven’t gotten this game for PS4. There’s enough improvements in the PS5 version to make me want to play that over the PS4 original any day.
