Correction. No we don’t throw it out if a batch of syrup gets overdone. Nothing gets wasted in maple production. It can be made into high quality maple sugar, candy, extracted into other useful components, shipped to food production for natural flavorings and sweeteners, added to animal feeds, and hundreds of other markets

I found a very old handheld celluloid pencil sharpener like the ones in this video the other day. It was in my drawer of old pencils. I happened to have some new replacement blades for a modern sharpener like it, so popped it in. Works as good as new now and is very cool.

I love prosciutto crudo. I learned about it when I was stationed in Italy. Maple syrup is a "forever food" and will keep indefinitely, unlike the corn syrup imitations.

I found the curing of the ham and the maple syrup process were the most interesting. I remember when I was very young seeing the maple syrup being collected from the trees. Back then, they hung buckets to collect the sap. I did not know that there were different grades of maple syrup based on color and quality ^^

The person who first ate that moldy ham had to have been starving! Who the hell would have thought that that ham was safe to eat?! It boggles my mind how some foods have made it to the table.

@ 19:00 "Gravity does all the work" @19:30 "the plantation owner has installed a motorised pump to literally suck the sap from the trees" So... not quite gravity doing any of the work.
