JANN HAWORTH | ART & FABRIC

In the 1960s, artist Jann Haworth was a pioneer of soft sculpture, and a key figure in British Pop Art – co-creating an iconic cover for The Beatle’s Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album. In this film she speaks to us about the impact of growing up around Hollywood film sets, how she started sculpting with fabric as a rebellion against misogyny, and how that iconic album cover inspired her to redress its gender imbalance through murals, forty years later.

ART & is a new series of films from the National Galleries of Scotland – using contemporary art to explore wider social, political, and cultural themes. Created in collaboration with artists, these films will examine the connections between contemporary art and the world it’s made in.

"i don't care if a work deteriorates, everything can't be kept" - as a textile artist this resonated thank you :)

What a great little film, thank you so much for sharing. Jan Haworth is a trailblazer and an InterNational Treasure, it's so nice to hear her talk about her work and her approach in her own words.
