New Zealand is a wonderland of glaciers, rain forests, rugged coastlines and amazing climbing. Black Diamond Ambassador Roland Hemetzberger traveled to NZ to sample all that it has to offer, and ended up making the first ascent of Nebuchadnezzar. Rolo has offered the grade of 9a, which would make it the hardest route in New Zealand. Video: Stefan Kuehn

Neat video, and great send, Roland, but...BD and the climbing community should ask whether we want to showcase climbers throwing tantrums and drawing unnecessary attention to themselves. Already, we have a generation of climbers whose understanding of climbing culture is mostly informed by videos, so it's no wonder that the soundscapes of our crags are littered with the screams of attention-seeking individuals. Such behavior jeopardizes our access to public lands. Beyond this, there times when climber-belayer communication is essential to survival, and this is impossible if everyone is screaming. While I'm not suggesting that these concerns directly apply to the showcased climb, I do think that BD and Hemetzberger should consider how the promotion of such behavior influences new climbers.
