What ticks me off even more is that no one mentions Hedwig again after this.

This was so sad because the beginning of his real journey as a wizard started with Hedwig and Hagrid

In the book Harry was much more torn about Hedwig's death. I don't think the movie stressed the emotion far enough. She was a good and loyal bird. She didn't deserve to just fall on the ground and be forgotten of.

Honestly Hedwig’s death was so heart-wrenching because she was technically Harry’s only companion during the summers while Hogwarts was not in session. :(

I got sick to my stomach when I saw this. She was a very loyal and loving owl. I remember in the books how she always reacted to Harry and how she would chirp to be let out of her cage. She died for him. I think I would have gone back for her. She deserved better than to fall to the ground and be forgotten.

It's so stupid he gets upset for her death for a good 5-10 seconds and shrugs it off and no one mentions hedwig ever again even though he knew her way longer than dobby and he cried when dobby died

He cries about Hedwig in the book and tries to turn around but Hagrid wouldn't let him. I cried so hard but the movie they just moved alone... :(

I like it how Hedwig knew exactly who the real Harry was, shows how well she knew him. He didn't loose just an owl, he lost one of his best companions.

I remember dropping the book when I read this for the first time. Same with Dobby.

It's Harry was much more emotional about her death in the books

The killing curse was actually meant for Hagrid.
RIP Hedwig
I still would be very sad if it hit Hagrid

So many people sacrificed themselves for Harry. That's something that makes the books and movies so good. Shows how loyal a lot of them are.

This is one of the few times when I liked the movie scene more than the book scene. I think it's more fitting for Hedwig to die in this way. I understand that her getting killed in her cage by a stray spell was meant to emphasize the senselessness of the war and the fact that even the innocent aren't safe...but I still preferred seeing her die fighting.

Harry is seriously like: NO HEDWIG Then after a couple of seconds, he's just like....ok, then. There's nothing really I can do anyway. DX

To be honest, this is one of the scenes that I am a bit torned: on the one hand, I LOVED that in the movies Hedwig died protecting Harry, she was a loyal friend to him since she got adopted by him in the Diagon Aley so many years ago, instead of dying in her cage, but appart from that detail, everything is much better writen and expressed in the book: Hedwig's death, while is not necessary in terms of story development, it is very important in a sense of representation of the senseless war where innocent get killed for no reason, and the end of innocence: Hedwig was the representation of Harry's innocence of his childhood, for crying out loud, her music theme is iconic and everyone knows it belongs to the story and movies whenever we hear it, it's the last symbol Harry has of his childhood and happier memories when he came to the magical world and Hogwarts. Losing her closes Harry's childhood for good, and in the book, Harry is destroyed by her death through the books, he litterally can't see another bird or owl in the books without feeling pain because it reminds him of his beloved Hedwig.
