Many people find the love for Bela by Bittu is unnecessary plot, but it's a most important point. Where bittus ancestor Gotya turned Munjya bcz of his one sided love for Munni, he caused chaos and killed and hurted people. At the end, when Bela rejects Bittu's proposal, Bittu understands it and handles like a mature person, as he doesn't want to become like Gotya. Please don't miss out on message details!!❤

Maddock deserves a special applause for trying something new. Their filmography is just too good. We need more such risk takers in Hindi movie industry…

This is what cinematic universe actually looks like where you can actually take the story forward without heavily relying on stars to cater a certain fanbase. Just deliver a good content, market it really well, it will definitely turn into decent footfalls. Maddock films are the real gem of filmmaking ❤

i was friends with this movie's main protagonist in school days.He was such an introvert with shy demeanor but he was really kind hearted and sweet in nature.I couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw his debut in this movie.

Its high time that Bollywood stops romanticizing every movie, specially of the horror genre, no need of the forced love affair when you have a brilliant story to put forward and bring out its potential, just for the sake of songs and a heroine literally distracting the actual plot of the movie, stories like Munjya can dig deep into the origins of the Evil and future potentials to establish itself as a movie series or universe, even if you don't want to make it. At least it wont make the movie forgettable, here movies like Shaitan excel, not exactly similar but they conveyed the core thought of the movie brilliantly instead of randomly introducing songs out of nowhere.

To be fair, Laapataa Ladies cast young actors in the lead roles and still it didn't get the commercial success it deserved. The Hindi film watching audience are not as discerning and do not appreciate nuanced movies as the Malayalam audience do. Even superstar movies like Malaikottai Vaaliban and Turbo didn't do as well as Manjummel Boys and Aavesham.

As someone from Maharashtra and as a Munjya myself (which means bachelor Brahmin in Marathi) I know that the concept of Munjya is far more terrifying than just a kid who wanted to marry someone but died a bachelor. It's more the manifestation of people living in that region who feared dying alone without a spouse because you know in the olden days you'd be lucky to even grow into adulthood.

The Konkan region of Maharashtra, where this concept originated, has many such horror stories because of the region being completely covered in trees back in the day. It was a coastal forest region. Imagine yourself roaming through a forest just as a daily commute, your brain tricks you into seeing and hearing things that aren't there because your flight/fight senses are kicking in.

Munjya is a by product of both these phenomenon and they could've made a compelling film about it but they had to go towards the cheap horror comedy route.

Just make a pure horror film for the sake of all that is good and holy. Is it really that hard?

These are obviously my thoughts after only watching the trailer don't know how the film turns out. The jokes in the trailer fell flat for me. I can still give it the benefit of the doubt.

Stree's humour was awesome because of Raj and DK writing

I especially enjoyed how the romance between Bela and Bittu didn't feel forced and how I grew to care for Ajji with how much ever screen time given to her. Hats off to Aditya Sarpotdar !

I hope Marathi cinema grows leaps and bounds. One of the major contributions of the current dispensation to cinema is that they have allowed regional cinema to flourish and get equal footing with the Mumbai film industry.
An SS Rajamouli or Sukumar or Sandeep Reddy Vanga or Prashanth Neil dominated the box office as a result..
I hope this doesn't change with the absurd election results we've seen this time ..

Whenever I See Munjya It Reminds me of Pandurang from Tumbbad ( Vinayak's Son )

" Jab Main Bada ho Jaunga Tujhse Byaah Karunga "

Cos, Tumbadd gave directors a ray of hope in the horror genre.

The horror genre was on the verge of extinction in Indian cinema.

Thanks to Tumbadd

Watched it yesterday and had a laugh riot. I have never witnessed a theatre going crazy during scenes. The actors did a phenomenal job. The story line was interesting. The pre credit scene has peaked my interest. The interval revelation had me laughing.
Not a single minute I felt the story line dragged. Overall worth a watch

I just hope Maddock keeps giving us such compelling stories and it won't be that long when they become the Blumhouse of India!

I thought they unnecessarily made it a comedy horror cuz I got the vibes of Tumbbad when I saw the initial trailer… but boy the acting and the performances are perfect! Loved it!
