The critically "panned" sequel to a timeless classic, but is it as bad as it's made out to be?

"When it came out, it was panned." Cue me chuckling for two bloody minutes straight over a stupid pun that wasn't even intentional.

My favourite moment in this movie is when Peter sees grown-up Wendy at the window. Still brings a tear to my eye.

So I don't have to hide in shame anymore? I thought I was the only one who actually liked this one?

Not gonna lie, I felt this movie was very respectful to the original and told the opposite story.

The original was about Wendy having to learn to grow up while the sequel was more about Jane learning to be a child

The only disappointment was removing the crocodile.

Personally, I find that criticism of a story to be a bit strange. After all, to what extent does a tale *need* to exist? There are certainly some stories whose existence you are more grateful for than others but a utilitarian approach doesn't work.
Also, your choice of adjective for the critics reaction was just perfect, Doug XD

I remember loving this movie when I was younger, but now that I see it, I can definitely see it's problems. However, I do feel like this takes advantage of it's situations. The story about Jane growing up during the war feels like a much more drastic reason as to why she isn't happy. The whole "I don't believe in fairies" is actually done really well, and emotionally too. Probably my favorite part of the movie is the ending, mostly because of the interaction between Wendy and Peter Pan. That's something that, for the longest time, only existed as legit fan fiction: what if Peter Pan sees adult Wendy? It was done well, and I say is the biggest highlight of the movie, mostly due to exactly that. It's probably one of the better Disney sequels that gets crapped on just because it IS a Disney sequel. If you haven't seen it yet, give it a watch! Heed Doug's advice and give it a chance.

To be fair, I always liked this sequel more than the first one, seriously.
It was more serious, the characters were more down to earth, and the songs didn't disturbed me that much because I watched it with the latin dub.

I've seen this flick in the theatres when I was a kid and boy, those shots with the flying ship, the atmosphere... It was so good.

Years later I rewatched the movie immediately after the original and it really showed me how different they are.

The one thing I HATE about this movie is that they didn't get Kathryn Beaumont (the original Wendy) to do adult Wendy. She's still alive and still voices Alice and Wendy in literally anything Disney asks her to (like Kingdom Hearts or the teacups at Disneyland). They actually did have her record lines for this, and then they changed the story, but for SOME reason didn't ask her to record the new lines. So instead we have the normally great Kath Soucie doing a godawful British accent. Why didn't they ask Kathryn back??

Funny enough, my family has this and a ridiculous amount more of these direct-to-DVD movies on a shelf in the master bedroom; I sometimes talk them into playing one every so often, and I think "Wait, _this_ was the movie? I remember this being better than that." I guess young me wasn't too picky. :P

Wait, the Crocodile is gone in this movie? I always thought the Crocodile turned into the Octopus because of some strange magic spell. I only saw this movie once years ago, but it made sense to me as a kid.

From what I've heard, at the end of Peter Pan (the book, I think ), Peter takes Wendy's daughter, Jane, to Neverland, then Jane's daughter and then her daughter and so on as they come back and grow up and have a family of their own. That just makes me sad thinking about how Peter is always alone.

I'm so happy that this got a good review and wasn't roasted, when growing up instead of disney princesses peter pan was my favorite movie i loved the book and watched Japanese version too and instead of waiting for a prince and getting married i was waiting for peter pan to take me to Neverland, never grow up and have amazing adventures and this sequel was a fresh surprise and gave me nice nostalgic feeling and excitement.

I remember seeing this in theatres and I thought the animation when the pirate ship goes over the house to get Jane was absolutely spectacular. Just those few seconds made me love the movie.
