There’s an interview with Mike Shinoda that was released recently where he discusses how they thought about remastering/mixing/changing some things about the song. But they didn’t want to change anything about it. The way it sounds hearing it now is how it would’ve sounded had it been released on Meteora back then. Mike also mentioned that this song and Numb were fighting for a spot on the album but Numb ended up winning.

It's no recreation. Mike Shinoda said in the post-release interview this song was done and mastered for the album release. The band decided it sounded too much like "Numb" and 12 tracks was a good number. So this is truly a timecapsule, a 20 year-old song with Chester's voice, which nobody but the band has heard before.

I've never listened to something equally nostalgic and new, it's VERY weird.

I grew up on Linkin Park, got into them from their very first music video on Kerrang! 20+ years ago, and while I didn't follow them much past Meteora, this earlier sound of theirs hits me with so much nostalgia it's unreal. So to hear something that sounds SO familiar, Meteora era Linkin Park is some of my favourite music ever, but that same song be something I've never heard before hits me in such a unique way.

R.I.P Chester, what a voice.

Thank you so much for giving your feedback on this song. Life long Linkin Park fan.

The harmonies are Chester himself. That was one of his great talents. His range was enormous, all the way to his scream sounding fantastic and nobody has ever come close to that.

I just had to comment on what you said once the song was over. I have tears stinging my eyes as I listen to how PERFECTLY you’ve mastered explaining exactly what I feel when I hear Chester’s voice after the passage of time. I’m grateful to Mike Shinoda & the rest of the band for giving us a piece of him back for the hundred times I watch the video and listen to this song. Geebz…as always, you rock. Thank you for this!

This actually made me cry because I grew up with Linkin Park and the loss of Chester tore a piece of my heart away.

Thanks for doing this one Geebz, this one hits different for a lot of us. This brought tears to my eyes, just turned 31 yesterday and both Hybrid Theory and Meteora were my childhood, my introduction to rock/metal. Chester knew how to cut through right to the soul, I feel emotional listening to this. RIP Chester 😭🙏❤

Thank you so much for reacting to this. What hit me the most was the lyrics. Chester was going through a divorce around this time and his lyrics always addressed deep trauma and loss, so to really dive into the lyrical content, especially now, absolutely breaks me. I miss him so much and wish we could've saved him like he saved ALL of us. We loved him so much and always will.

From what I heard, Geebz, Mike Shinoda the other vocalist of Linkin Park, as debating on what to do, if it was right or not, and when they started to find out songs and projects, he was like "Dont touch anything, lets just leave it like that", so all the songs that are gonna come out are the same as they were almost 20 years ago... Also, side fact, LOST was supposedly to be on Meteora, but since they had already Numb, Breaking the Habit on the tracklist, Lost was just left on the floor and now it finally sees the light of day...

Source is the youtube video of KROQ interviewing Mike Shinoda.

Meteora for me is Linkin Park at their peak, hearing this knowing that Chester is no longer with us hit me in the feels in a way I was not expecting. It’s such a powerful performance, but that goes for most of his performances.

I hope he’s resting peacefully, gone far too young.

Mike Shinoda stated in his interview with KROQ said this was recorded and mastered 20 years ago - it has not been touched...it was to be on Meteora but was left off.

Mike did an interview on KROQ recently and said they did minimal changes and kept more of the original mix.

For the first time listening to this song, when Chester screams/belts “I’m lost!” I hear it as expressing that he’s gone… lost to us all.

If this was a new song it wouldn't even be shocking. It's incredible how well this sound has aged.

I love how in dissecting their sound you instinctively chose the descriptors "hybrid" and "numbing, " very fitting.

Evening Geebz!

As someone who grew up listening to LP on the daily, while this is a new release, it has such a nostalgic feel behind it.

Makes me feel like I'm 13 again, in a good way, goddamn Chester's voice is brilliant.

This song reminds me of when I started listening to Linkin Park as a teenager. I'm glad you said nostalgia because it so makes me feel this way listening to this track. Great reaction 🥰❤️
