24k Gold vs 22k Gold Coins - Magnet Test

Not sure if this applies to other alloys, but I’ve noticed Gold changes its magnetic properties when mixed with Copper in Coinage.

Gold Panda 🐼
99.9% Gold

American Gold Eagle 🦅 .
91.67% Gold
5.33% Copper
3% Silver

Gold Krugerrand
91.67% Gold
8.33% Copper

Gold Maple 🍁
99.99% Gold

Magnets in the video are N52 Grade

First saw this type of magnet tap and pull testing from @TommyTechnetitum here on YouTube

If you or someone you know would like to test metals with a Pocket Pinger, they’re available on the link in the profile, Amazon, and eBay.

Disclaimer: All the risks associated with pinching a coin in between your fingers and then tapping it with plastic and/or wood are present when using the device. The ping test is used for alloy identification. Always compare the sound of a potential counterfeit with the sound of a known authentic or trusted data base. Any difference in sound is a strong indication that further testing is needed. Always use multiple testing methods.

The Pocket Pinger has helped catch over 100 fake coins, all confirmed.

If you catch one with yours please reach out. There’s a valuable lesson to share in each story.

Dozens of Pocket Pinger demo videos can be found on the profile.

A simple ping test really can prevent a counterfeit situation.

If someone might like or benefit from this content please share it with them.

Magnet quickly drawn away from coin sets up induced eddy currents in the coin (and thus a magnetic field). The higher the conductivity of the coin, the higher the induced eddy current / magnetic field. 24k gold is more conductive than 22k gold.

Hold up! Gold doesnt conduct magnetic pull.

Not a word said, yet this speaks volumes.

False. Gold is not magnetic. Why fool people? What is your interest?

Eddy currents. It cuts through magnetic field. But it doesn't stick. Same with pure silver and copper

24K is pure gold.

And pure gold doesn’t get attracted to magnets.

Very cool!!! Take a look at what we did to gold coins!!!

Make a magnet slide/ramp and on a angle slide the coins down it works way better than tapping magnets on coins

It's that big of a difference going from 22k to 24k?

So basically you're telling your 24 karat gold is fake.

About pure gold and fool gold.
Pure gold does not attract magnets because it is not magnetic. Fool's gold, which is commonly iron pyrite (FeS₂), can be weakly magnetic because of its iron content. However, it's only slightly responsive to strong magnets, unlike metals like iron or steel.

how much this matching price testing??

Gold is (slightly) paramagnetic meaning it definitely won't stick to an magnet. This means your coins probably are made from some sort of Chinesium alloy.

Guess anyone who hasnt owned gold would think this is fake, its not. There isnt no attraction. Just current thats generated into the metal from the quick movements.

Ouro não é magnético para imã, o material usado no 24k é alguma mistura com ferro.

What? Did I study wrong in my science classes that only ferrous metals get attracted to the magnet?

Dude I tripped the heck out when I noticed this the first time
