Sad day. My experience was the same, in my late 30s and never saw him play. My dad loved him and the stories he would tell me, about how he flew on the ice, always made me jealous. RIP Legend.

I consider myself blessed to have grown up in Montreal watching les Canadiens win cup after cup during the 1970s. Guy was electrifying to watch and seemed to glide rather than skate as he took a pass from Lemaire or Shutt and breeze by the opposition to score. What a player, and what a team! A golden era of hockey.

Such a great man. Always had the time for the fans. Tough to lose a childhood idol like him. Thank you for taking the time to say some words about him.

I'm 25 so I never got the opportunity to see Guy play but I grew up knowing how legendary he was. The only time I saw him in the flesh was when I went to a game at the Bell Centre in 2019 and I saw him on the ice with a bunch of alumni before the game. Rest easy, Guy. We love you!

I am from Montreal and during the 70s I worked for the town of Baie D'Urfe public works. I lived there and so did Guy. As a summer job it was great. We would regularly drive by and wave or stop and chat a bit. Friendly and had a dry wit. RIP.

As a huge habs fan for 30+ years, I had the chance to see him play and admire him. The last of the three greatest players to have ever worn this prestigious jersey. RIP Mr. Lafleur, we will never forget you

another player we lost too soon. i watched him play for his whole career as i am 75 years old and he was one of the players who could lift you out of your seat. the really sad part is that he was a 4 pack a day smoker and in the end it caught up to him. sympathies to his wife and family and the habs nation.

I was fortunate to be a teenager during the Lafleur/Habs glory years. An absolute legend who will be remembered always.

Guy used to own a Restaurant in Berthierville, not too far from my parents house. We went there a few times on sundays for brunch and he was always there, talking with everyone, signing stuff and taking pictures. A class act. And he played golf with my brother, so he always took the time to come and greet us.

GUY! GUY! GUY! I have a 100th anniversary NHL Habs jersey. Guess who's number is going on it. He was a humble legend. Truly one of the greats. My favorite hockey player ever, hands down. R.I.P. Guy Lafleur!

I LOVED GUY, and same as u, my old man's favorite hockey player, was LaFleur, but Im 47, and i do remember him playing, and he was a beast, he was noticeable EVERY shift. My old man loved LaFleur like...like I love Gretzky! And one night in Amherst Nova Scotia, (where Im originally from), they had an old timers game, and almost exactly the same as Junkie's story, LaFleur was talking to fans beside the glass at the end of the bench, and my old man took me over, to make it look like I was the one who felt like he was in the presence of God! We got there, LaFleur signed an old Jersey I had, (I wish i still had it, well i do, just no idea where it is), anyway, he talked to me briefly, and I said my Dad is actually a huge fan of urs too, and he looked up at my old man, and said, we are all going to the Wandlyn Motel bar tonight, after the game, he said not a lot of people know, so please dont tell anyone, but show up there, and we will have a beer. My old man looked like me Christmas morning standing in front of a fully stocked Christmas tree, with a living room full of Xmas gifts! Sure enough when the game was done, my old man went home, got showered up, jumped in his car, (this was the early 80's, drinking and driving was as common as wearing shoes!), lol. He went to the Wandlyn, and when My old man met LaFleur, he said Im Russ, this is Todd, and he actually remembered my old man's name, which he was over the moon about, and then half way thru the night, Guy asked, so does Todd play hockey? He remembered both of our names! My old man got TANKED with him, not only LaFleur, but he was the only one that was super important to my old man! Im sure my old man is welcoming him in heaven today, with a HUGE smile & hug!!!
