Wings of Eagles winning this race was somewhat surprising, but not nearly the "huge upset" that Racing UK and other media made it out to be, because he should've never been 40-1 or anything like it for the Derby to begin with. You need only look back at his run in the Chester Vase a few weeks earlier to realize that if they went off at a really good clip in the Derby that the race could set up perfectly for Wings of Eagles. It was an almost carbon copy of his run at Chester except that this time instead of coming up a whisker short he finished over the top of the lot of them. Considering he was obviously sacrificed on the day as a pacemaker, I thought Douglas Macarthur ran a very decent race also. He took the field all the way to the furlong pole before Cliffs of Moher, Cracksman, Eminent, and couple of others were finally able to run him down. Sort of makes you wonder how Douglas Macarthur might've fared in the race had he been given a proper ride with winning in mind, because even being used up as a pacemaker he still finished 7th of 18, which was a rather good finish for a horse that was sent off great guns from the time the gates opened.

I had $20 e/w on this stylish colt @ 66/1. Great effort by the colt and great ride by Don Beggy.

Heffernan gave him the most SUSPECT ride at Chester.
His father Pour Moi won in exactly the same wAy.
Class horse would of won by 5L with a clear run.
Shame he got injured.
Roaring Lion this year for me.

Of course he will Simon. Frankel will sire a ton of horses that stay twelve furlongs. First, we are only two months into his first "Classic Generation" (three year olds) and he has already had two placed in the third fastest Derby in history,  and has already sired the winner of the Japanese Oaks ; Soul Stirring, who covered the twelve furlongs in a very fast 2mins 26 secs. If "His Majesty" stays healthy until he is old, we can look forward to another 2, 500 colts and fillies. We have only seen 120 so far. Some on youtube are getting a little carried away ; Cracksman and Cliffs Of Moher are both very lightly raced and it surely did not help the former that he missed his intended prep at York, and the latter had not run for six months when beating fitter horses well at Chester.  The purists of the sport will tell you that two prep races are better before a Derby. Final point, those expecting Frankel to sire another Frankel will probably be disappointed. It has been said before that "superhorses do not sire superhorses" and none of the super stallions of my lifetime ; Northern Dancer, Sadlers Wells, Danzig, and Galileo were in Frankel`s league. It could be said that Danzig was unlucky in that he was unbeaten when injury ended his career. If the adage above is untrue, then Hyperion came closest. All of the above can be traced back to the great winner of the 1933 Derby and without Hyperion, today`s horses would undoubtedly be slower.
