My grandfather was a infantryman in the war, he saw an Emu warrior in the field one morning and when it raised its leg to charge he shot it, he always told me he wondered if that Emu had a nest, if it had a patch of grassland it migrated to, if it had a mate it wanted to go home to but that in the end it came down to him or them, and it was him

The scars of this war run deep in Australia. About 5 years ago my Sister was dating an emu, things were getting pretty serious but when my Sister told Dad that she wanted to get married my Dad said he would disown her. All these years later and the legacy of this war tore my family apart.

the war crimes committed by the Emus was something I just can never pull myself to forgive.

Hilariously there was an account from an Australian Army officer who said the Emu were dividing and moving as if following formation commands: avoiding gun fire and moving in groups to harass and evade the shooters.
Tens of thousands of rounds were expended to try and kill a few Emu and the Australians couldn't keep up with the flightless birds.
