The upper level of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge connecting Staten Island and Brooklyn, New York, was closed on Monday, November 30, due to high winds, police said.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for Brooklyn on November 30, which included a gale warning for the New York Harbor.

Video that surfaced on social media on Monday shows the empty suspension bridge making groaning noises as it shifted in the wind.

Verrazano, it’s no longer a bridge, it’s now the world’s largest string instrument.

This is like the beginning of a horror movie. The bridge sounds like an alarm and the weather is perfect for a zombie apocalypse.

It’s suppose to do that its a suspension bridge it’s actually held up by cables and is built to move in high winds so the winds don’t destroy the bridge. Lots of high rise building also move in the wind

So haunting and oddly comforting at the same time

It's the bridge's day off so he took a nap and ended up snoring.

The GW dances like that over heavy traffic loads, bends and flexes. Riding across it years ago in a heavy tractor trailer truck. Scary when you know the Hudson River is 300 ft plus below you.

Now we know where that noise in horror movies comes from.

The engineering that it takes to create bridges that resist strong weather like this is astounding.

I want to see it in person. Magnificent display of engineering at its best.

Sounds like a slow motion version of Debo’s theme whenever he’s close by

I was halfway through the video before I realized that wasn't the soundtrack behind this - it was the BRIDGE making that noise. Engineering brilliance in action - world's largest violin.

Bridges are actually designed to move I. High winds, as you can see in the video the connection points between the roads have some give to them. However it is still dangerous to be up there because when bridges rock back and forth like this, it puts a lot of stress on the structure. This exact scenario is happening back in the 1920s or so and is what caused another suspension bridge to collapse

It’s saying that the tolls are too expensive on this damn bridge.
