The apparent void in the darkness of space is not as empty as you might think. In fact, it somehow holds the key to creating stars, planets, and even us! And Dutch super-scientist Ewine van Dishoeck made it her life's work to figure out how interstellar gas and dust turned into us.

Correction: At 0:33 and 0:40, it should be cubic centimeters instead of square centimeters. Thanks to everyone who pointed that out in comments!

As a biologist, I think it's great that physics, chemistry and biology come together to explain how life was able to form. For example, the physicist Erwin Schroedinger said that all forms of life consist of cells as they help us to overcome the second law of thermodynamics which states that everything in the universe becomes more unordered over time. However, the simple fact that cells have membranes and highly complex biochemical reactions helps to overcome this issue (I just made a video trying to define "life"). It's so wonderful that such complicated things as life has been made from star dust!

Chemistry hurts my brain but it is truly fascinating.

So basically: Sticky wet dust balls in space + Time + Clouds of Extra Material = Stars and Planets

It’s amazing what a soup of gas and dust can do! ⭐️

Objectivity saved my life. So in a way I guess you could say science did. Unfortunately poverty restrict me from being able to be a patron... currently going to college to study environmental science so hopefully in the future I can support this channel because the daily content keeps me sane. Thank you so much! May you never stop creating content

We measure volume in cubic centimetres.
Square centimetres of anything are flat and don't contain any atoms of anything.

As a physicist I find this quite compelling

Don't you mean cubic centimeter at the start of the video, not square centimeter?

Is it me or did they speed up the video at 3:56 to 4:01?
