This is one of those legendary methods kept secret from man and elves.

using an exacto or scalpel you can bevel the inner edge of the pencil to make it almost like a chisel, can get a deeper ridge

LOL. I thought I was one of the first guys to do that, back in the mid 70s.
That and mixing paint with Mod Podge for coating insulation foam. And a bunch of other things that people keep “rediscovering”.

I just wish someone that does terrain-making videos would go over the basic differences between cobblestones and flagstones, and between bricks and stone blocks.

Hobby shops also sell brass tubing. No need to “waste” a pencil

How I make mine is I have a bucket of water and let lava flow into it which causes it to become cobblestone
