Dirk van der Horst (Zaandam, November 15, 1946 - Alkmaar, September 22, 2004) was a Dutch guitarist.
At age 11 his musical career began. In 1957 he became member of the Tophit Brothers, a band that made music that resembled that of the Everly Brothers.
Five years later, Van der Horst played in the band The Dachshunds, which he covered music by the Rolling Stones and The Kinks. With this band he recorded two singles: Mabel and Iko.
In 1969 he moved to the band Take Five. This band soon changed its name to Dizzy Man's Band. With this band he experienced his first big success in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, England, France, Japan and South America. Some of their hits are "Tickatoo" (1970), "The Show" (1973) and "The Opera" (1975). The band broke up in 1983. Of the original line was only Van der Horst left.
Dirk van der Horst played in the band Next One, until he was asked to BZN to replace Cees Tol. On March 5, 1988 he decided to switch to BZN, where he played until December 2002.
From November 2002 his health deteriorated. In January 2003 he was told that he had cancer. Due to his illness he could not act because his incurable disease turned out to be.
Dirk died on September 22, 2004 at the age of 57 after a long illness in a hospital in Alkmaar to the effects of cancer.
