Ashford & Simpson
Nickolas Ashford (May 4, 1941 – August 22, 2011) and Valerie Simpson (born August 26, 1946)
As performers, Ashford & Simpson's best-known duets are "Found A Cure" (1979) and "Solid (As a Rock)" (1984 US and 1985 UK). The duo was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2002. Ashford and Simpson were also recipients of The Rhythm & Blues Foundation's Pioneer Award in 1999, and ASCAP's highest honor, the Founder's Award in 1996. The duo essentially had two careers: one as a successful writing and producing team and the other as singers and performers themselves.

Bassist Fransisco Centeno is as funky as it gets, period! I think Ashford and Simpson came across him when he was just a young man. Great talent!!!

On this day in 1978 {April 8th} Ashford and Simpson performed "Don't Cost You Nothing" on the Dick Clark ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'...
At the time the song was at #83 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, three weeks later it would peak at #79, and the following week it was at #99 and that was also it's ninth and last week on the Top 100...
It reached #10 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart...
Between 1973 and 1986 the husband and wife duo had seven records on the Top 100 chart, with "Solid" being their biggest hit, it entered the Top 100 on November 4th, 1984 at position #90, thirteen weeks later it would peak at #12 {for 2 weeks} and it spent almost a half-year on the Top 100 {24 weeks}...
The duo composed "Let's Go Get Stoned", and in 1966 Ray Charles' version of the song peaked at #1 {for 1 week} on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart...
Nickolas Ashford passed away at the age of 70 on August 22nd, 2011, and Valerie Simpson will celebrate her 72nd birthday this coming August 25th {2018}...
May Mr. Ashford R.I.P.

I really love Ashford & Simpson! Remarkable & Truly under rated talent!!! I saw them during homecoming week in college at TSU in the early 80's. Ms. Valarie didn't mind sharing her handsome husband with the ladies as they ran to the stage as he sang. I will always remember this wonderful concert.

definitely one of the best writing duo's in the music industry. so amazing to wish this kind of music was not passed down to the so call music non writer's of today. never seen this again and with actual bands and not machines. they wrote for some of the BIGGEST artists EVER.

A&S- I never knew how good these 2 were. I had no idea that this was their song. I keep coming across songs that they wrote and artists they produced. They were amazing together.
