Therapist reacts to Solway Firth by Slipknot

Therapist uses the lyrics of Solway Firth by Slipknot to discuss what happens when we vulnerably share our pain and it is met with disbelief and rejection. This often causes external and internal conflict that prevents the root pain from being acknowledged and attended to. Instead, we try to blame, defend, and deflect the other person's perspective, and our initial pain gets lost in the conflict. This song calls us to always come back to the root of the matter and tend to our pain.

"You want the real smile, or the one I used to practice not to feel like a failure, " is one of the most relatable and visceral lines I've heard in any song in my entire life....

This song sounds so much like old school Slipknot. The pain in the voice is so real. Best song on the album in my opinion.

The bit that hits so hard for me is how the chorus changes to "It wasn't somebody else, you did it to ME". Anyone whose had their trust betrayed can feel that shit in their soul.

"Solway Firth" is the perfect metal song.
All the changes are so tasteful and keep you engaged the entire time. Even without the lyrics, the music is a rollercoaster of a story.
My favorite Slipknot song ever made.

That last verse that returns to the initial pain fueled by all of the anger, and frustration from the previous sections of the song always hits me the hardest. I imagine that anyone who has dealt with that situation themselves will feel that part of the song the most. It gets me so tearful with rage while rocking out that it usually ends with a silent scream. ❤‍🩹

I needed this so badly the past 25 years. A therapist explaining they why I related so deeply with Slipknot and how they were a voice I always felt was never allowed to be shared.

I can't lie; I simultaneously love your analysis on the lyrics of these songs, but your reactions to the songs themselves and how heavy they are makes me smile. It shows that you really appreciate how the heavy parts just convey the intensity of the emotions put into the songs. Would be interested to hear your analysis of my band's most recent song lyrically.
