I got both... My opinion I think the Academy is better form my style of play. I cut and run around a lot and the Cut 3 just digs into my pinky toe a bit. I double sock now to remedy the situation and it has been working. My only con to the Academy is that the cushion could be better but other than that they were good right out the box.

Select GT Cut 3's will one day be discounted at or near the price of the Academy's. Just wait on it if you desire all the "bells and whistles" and are not in immediate need of a hoop shoe.
