Being a software developer (also a UPSC aspirant), I would like to mention that this approach need not always work...

Consider the same example with different coins..

1, 2, 5, 73, 75 and we need to get a total of 78 again..

With the above mentioned method the answer will be 3 (1, 2, 75) but in reality the answer should be 2 (73, 5)...

In such cases this method fails and calculation of all possibilities come into picture.

1st statement is saying "To Buy".. that's why its correct..
2nd one is "To Weigh".. means Total Weight can be any thing..
Means 50g +25g+5g.=80 Gram(we crossed 80 grams kyunki weigh karna hai.. paisa count nahi karna hai)..
