How to Make the Samsung Galaxy S9 Look Like Stock Android

The S9 and S9 Plus were released recently and they are a fine bit of kit. They feel more solid than the S8 and S8 Plus for some reason, the low-light camera is insane, and that screen? Drool.

But what if you love the hardware but aren't the biggest fan of the software or Samsung's Experience UI (formerly TouchWiz UI). Now, I admit Samsung's UI is way better than it used to be, but some people out there might want to use stock Android instead--no judgement, I get it. So in this tip and trick Tuesday, here's how to make the Galaxy S9 or S9 Plus look like stock Android.

Hats off to those who don't own a S9 and are still watching this video.

In the samsung theme store there's a theme called Material Design (Android 7+). This makes the notifcaticon shade, nav buttons and settings app look stock.

prefer the S9 Samsung UI over stock android. Honestly don't care about immediate fast updates, especially like apple who update like every week or 2, it can get annoying. But I would like Samsung to update their phones to latest android version within 3 months and support their latest phones for at least 3 year as that is when most people upgrade.

Great tutorial. Pretty easy to change the look and feel of the Galaxy phone without rooting and installing a custom ROM that average user does not want to do.

In addition to this video, before changing default launcher, go to samsung themes, download and install theme called Pixelize... it will give you more stock settings menu and notification bar, stock icons and also it will give you stock navigation keys, not those samsung ones... it's a good addition to achieving pixel look :)

Status Bar Icons for Samsung in Substratum is one of the best things to get stock icons in the status bar. Also, System UI Tuner will remove the NFC icon that is usually not enabled in stock Android.

The live wallpaper picker stops when I choose a live wallpaper from the wallpaper app. Does someone know how I can fix that?

To further the experience by including some Oreo 8.1 features (instead of just limiting yourself to the aesthetic replicating) look into the Lean Launcher. It's now available through the Play Store and allows you to adjust things like: dynamic notifications, icon packs, double-tap to lock, etc.

In case you just want to stick with the Pixel Launcher, download Another Widget from the Play Store to get that Calendar/Weather widget on your home screen.

If you don't want Experience UI, and you want a more Stock feeling, you can download Notification Shade from the Play Store, and make it dark if you don't like the white one

Biggest thing you are missing is ‘material design’ theme. Will change a lot of UI to stock androidish look.

Cool vid. How do you get the icons with out the wording? Is that thru Nova? I've seen some that look like smart watches I've seen that have the apps all in a spiral. Can you give any advice on this ?

This was super useful, and also applicable to just about any Android device.
