This album changed my view of what music could do, it’s been my favorite album for over 40 years. Genius

“Listen to my music, and hear what it can do, there’s something here as strong as life, I know it will reach you.” You’re goddamn right.👍

This is the album they made to give the finger to the record company. They thought that this would be the end of Rush and they would go down in flames. Instead it was a hit. So the record company said they must know what they are doing, and left them pretty much to their own artistic devices after that.

"Twenty-one twelve" is how they refer to it. :) This is a classic and is considered one of the "must listen to" albums. It's a great composition and is passionate and engaging and it thrust them completely into the professional league.

Quick bit of trivia. The voice of the "we have assumed control" part at the end of the song, was none other than Neil Peart.

When you revisit this music, watch the storyboard video. This ‘Twenty-One Twelve’ tells a futuristic story of a society that did away with creativity.. specifically music. And when a common man finds an ancient guitar and presents it to the Temple Priests as a miracle this common man is told it would destroy the world.
That’s the difference in forceful vocals (the priests) and the softer vocals (the common man). Classical musicians tell a story through the music. This 20 minutes tells a futuristic story. Again, watch the graphic novel video of this music.

This was the first Rush I ever heard and I was captivated! Mesmerized! I first heard this in 1976 and I have never looked back - Rush is everything!

They have a number of longer songs that really tell tales... this is one of the best rock songs ever written. Like a symphony, they start with an overture that introduces all the themes that play out in the other parts of the song. It's just so well written... they were giants... maestros. I say this every time anyone is blown away by Rush, but to think about the music and think that there are only three people playing! Amazing. Keep digging in, there's so much more good stuff!

I reckon this will still be sounding great in the year 2112. Hard to believe it's nearly half a century old already.

they should have suggested the lyrical version (especially the animated one). Rush's music is closely related to the lyrics (especially 2112). He tunes his guitar because in the story he discovers it in a cave. In the overture, when you look up, they mention Tchaikovsky's 1812 (for the assonance of the date and the guns). If you like water and acustic guitar, i've alredy suggest you Natural Science

When you have time and listen to it again please have the lyrics available. You will get an even deeper feeling from it..

Pronounced "Twenty-one Twelve", it was inspired by a book called "Anthem" by the Russian author Ayn Rand. Neil Peart (drummer & lyrics) actually just found a copy of it on a London bus during the year he spent there trying to get into the music business. He wrote about it in a few of his books and discussed it in interviews for Modern Drummer magazine.

Twenty-one Twelve was my introduction to the Canadian three-piece rock gods music and the start of my dive into the world of percussion.

Ah, drinking beer while listening to 2112. It takes me back to high school, when this album came out. We ALL had this album. We ALL KNEW this album, In the 80's, when I was in band, we played the overture to 2112. I don't play guitar much anymore (finger injury) but I still remember it and can still play parts of it on my classical guitar today. Thank you for this. It takes me back. <3
