most easy to understand explanation of the scanning difference.
It's amazing your before & afters, looks like a completely different look & definitely the film look people are aspiring to go for! Great shots.

Really cool! I have a roll in my fridge that I never shot because I was afraid of the results:) You made me want to give this film a try sometime soon!

Nice and short! Just to the point – I like that. I've bought Phoenix 200 in 120 to put in one of my TLRs, but didn't find the time to do so (there's still Kodak Gold 200 in the one with the exposure meter ;-)). It seems to give better results, even though it is supposed to be the exact same emulsion …

Much nicer end result, and well presented. The lab scans do seem to have captured a bit more detail and sharpness, so they at least have that going for them! Although the noise and over-contrast could be contributing to that.

I don't think the issues with the lab scan is just limited to harmon phoenix. My local film developers with their Noritsu scanners always produce scans like that. Even in TIFF formats the dynamic range is lost and there is a lot of dithering added to make the image look sharper.

Ah man, guess I'll have to give Phoenix a second chance!
Also...
Nice London Drugs envelope, are you in BC or Alberta? (guessing from the photos)

I used to have problem with lab scan that comes out too harsh contrast and too bright highlight that gets blown out. When I tried to scan at home it looks so much better. It makes me questioning about operating error in photo lab or was it on auto instead of manual correction.
