IMO,
The absolute #1 reason is usability!
The ability to get the knife out of your pocket, opened, utilized, closed and back in your pocket one handed SAFELY!
Imagine standing on a ladder installing a new ceiling fan, taping some wires together and only having one hand available to cut the tape, as an example.

I been carrying a Kershaw Livewire carbon fiber scales with CPM Magnacut steel. It's very lightweight and the button is very smooth plus easier to deploy then alot of other OTFs.

The regular Dirac with the one serrated side will be my next knife. I’m carrying a utx85 right now.

So I own this particular blade, it’s the Dirac Delta D/E Black Edition. Hella hard to find and definitely not a cheap knife. I’ve left mine mint in the box n only take it out once n a while just to feel it’s bad-assery. Have lots of other awesome knives I used for EDC but this puppy ain’t one of em lol

Carry a benchmade mini infidel otf but i gotta say i also carry a small fixed blade as idk how far i would trust it for heavy use.

The fact that microtech went with benchmades fire mechanism is beyond me. Maybe it was to bring people over to their side kind of a trade-off but when you hold a knife, you don’t hold it flat like that out of the pocket, the old firing mechanism and the standard for microtech that they’ve always had is the only way to go, keep it on the side not where you’re gonna slip.

I don’t like the idea of double sided blades at all but I really really want a micro tech for edc. Maybe a tanto

They are cool I give it that. But as an every day idk. My folding knife is very reliable, can get dirty, can drop in sand, can get sticky stuff all over it and it will always open. Also if I leave it sitting on my bumper and lose it, does not cost and arm and a leg.

I like otfs but the first 3 are applicable to almost all knives
