Millard was probably the most accurate because he’s literally invisible

They didn’t just switch olive and Emma’s perculiarity. They changed olives. She can float in the books. In the movie she completely controls air

The only reason Olive became the love interest was because the weighted heels that stopped her from floating would have been great merchandise to sell at hot topic.
You can’t change my mind.

the fact that they swapped Olive with Emma in the movie really threw me off when i finally read the book. i was like "did Jacob get the name wrong or sumn?" but i think they swapped Olive with Emma so that the main love interest can have this fragile girl concept rather than a strong-willed woman so that the whole focus would be in Jacob instead? idk if that makes sense

Jacob's actor was faking an American accent, and he pulls the accent off, but in his carefulness / focus in recreating the American accent, he lost all emotion.

I've never been so aghast at a movie adaptation in my life lol.

"Hey let's age up this 3 year old to be like 17 so we can give her an un-needed romance subplot. Also while we're at it we're gonna swap her and the main female leads powers. Just because."

Tim Burton, seeing a character that is white and doll-like: *shiiiit thats all you had to say!*

It’s really frustrating whenever a movie director doesn’t respect the book or source/origins. In some cases tweaking may be needed but it’s sad to see a story loved by so many be twisted/tweaked into something more bland. Especially the characters being made more so into that of a typical children’s film...

I knew Tim Burton had a preference for Love interests being soft, blonde and wearing blue dresses, but him going this far to get this concept through is actually worrying

You: "Olive has fire powers and is a very aggressive love interest."
Me, who has only seen the movie: *blinks in lost potential*

I feel like the movie was just a fanfic of the books, with different characters just in the same universe, kind of like they imagined the school 20 odd years into the future if the bomb didn't hit the school.

Enoch was like seventeen in the movie, though he's twelve-ish in the book.

Are we not going to talk about the absolute atrocity they did to my girl Fiona??? Like I don’t dislike the movie but where is my wild haired, plant controlling, chicken holding queen??? Who is this girl scout looking thing with pigtails? They did her so dirty, the worst imo

Is noone gonna talk how in movie the monsters ate childrens eyes, but in book they ate whole children (wich is a lot scarrier with all the detail...)? And they changed Fiona so much!

Book Emma: O.D.D, agressive, scary.
Movie Emma: Caring, kind, "I'm not like other girls."
