How many Christians really live in India? Although the last full released official census of India in 2011 enumerated around 26 million Christians in the entire country or roughly 2% of the population, many third-party estimates and independent sources may have different figures, some of which are close and others may be quite divergent from the official figures. Some of these sources may have ulterior motives potentially leading to inflated figures, however even some unbiased sources such as Pew Research and the Association of Region Data Archives claim the number of Christians in the country is underreported. Because the issue of religion and Christianity in particular is quite contentious in the region today there are various reasons why Christians may be undercounted in the official census, either due to government pressure or individuals who wish to keep their Christian identity hidden, as conversion to Christianity is extremely controversial in the country. In reality, the number lies somewhere in the middle of the official numbers and independent sources, although we may never know for sure. Thanks for watching

Goan Catholic here. We were once Hindus and willingly converted to Christianity.
This fact makes modern Hindus salty, and they spread lies about us, saying that we were forcefully converted.

Iam a saint Thomas Christian/nasrani. It's not really a sensitive topic in Kerala due to it having a Christian population for so long

And Jesus' Disciple Thomas did not yield when they were killing him with a spear. And Christianity in India can trace their roots back to Thomas' Early Ministry

Yess Christian population is much higher in India cause many lower caste and tribal people won't tell u that they are Christian because they are getting reservation benefits
There are many British time source which show many Christian in many areas but after independence these people identify themselves as hindus to get reservation benefits but they go to church and are christian

Believe it or not
In Keralam, it isn't the hindus and muslims that have the most discourse, rather it is us christians ourself
Mainly between the Orthodox and Jacobite denominations imo

Don't forget the Goans, who intermarried extensively with the Portuguese over 300 yrs of being a colony. They have a lifestyle a lot like Phillipinos, with lots of home made music and karaoke, and Catholic festivals and life events.

Why is this a “very controversial” topic? Yes there are Christians in India, lots of them. So what?

India was Christian centuries before the Brits were and I wonder why there would be mass conversions of lower caste Hindus.

Some Japanese people postulate that Jesus traveled to India, got married and fathered a few children.
And then, they say, that he traveled to Japan and died there. Some even claim that Jesus has a grave site there.
I lived in Japan for 20 yrs, and found no such grave; then again, I wasn't looking for it. 😂

I’ve had the privilege of meeting several Indian missionaries (as in they themselves are Indian and minister to fellow Indians). Some of the holiest and wise people I have ever met. They are so brave to endure the level of attacks they receive from both Hindus and Muslims. They also witness many miracles. God works the most powerfully in the most humble and unassuming spaces on behalf of the lowly. This is beautiful, not sensitive. People are turning from demonic false gods to the truth to their own benefit, and to the benefit of their communities

Hinduism and Islamism both are two sides of same coin.
