The CSIS Technology Policy Program invites you to a discussion and release of a new report on the state of China's AI innovation ecosystem.

Around the world policymakers have recognized the critical importance of AI to economic growth and competitiveness, as well as national power. Few countries have embraced this view as fervently as China. China sees an opportunity to catapult itself into a position of global leadership in the AI age. The world has taken notice. AI has taken center stage in the “technology cold war” between the United States and China, and the “AI race” between them has become a central theme in global debates around the future of emerging technologies. Please join us for an interactive discussion with senior experts on the state of the Chinese AI ecosystem, and how the U.S. should respond to China’s progress in AI.

It s easy to be dismissive wihtout a common sense reality check. E.g. if China has a fundamental data quality problem re GDP, u d think after 70 years or 40 years of working on deeply flawed and wrong data, there would be consequences and disasters. There s a lot of other examples. All these make people see what they want to see when it comes to China and become blindsided. After so many years of failure, u d think people would stop and think. But no, people keep repeating stuff mindlessly as if it is the gospel truth.

I have to tell you, the GDP growth is manipulated, in my hometown, we have so many private small business booming, that never been taken into account of the overall GDP.

The western countries have been controlling sensitive technologies to some countries like China in particular. it is high time for the western allies to think why the control has not been stopping China growing. Yet India has been allowed to import much more those technologies than China yet India has not yet developed the capabilities as China.

The technological progress is amazing at the moment. And I'm amazed at the power of Huawei which increasingly is making the U.S. tech giants look like old dinosaurs in comparison. China has probably been developing tech, including AI under the public radar for like a decade.
