I was born and raised in Williamsburg, Virginia. We took many school field trips to the restored area of Colonial Williamsburg. The Magazine is one of the buildings that has continued to evolve as historians discover more about it. Just to the side of the Magazine there is a huge conifer that gets covered in all white lights each Christmas. The lighting ceremony is called the Grand Illumination and marks the beginning of the holiday season in our town. When I was a young man I got a job with CW as a Shepard boy. Dressed in simple colonial garb, I often took my flock of big fluffy sheep to a large field across the street from the Magazine where they could graze peacefully while I enjoyed a ginger cookie from the nearby colonial bakery. Colonial Williamsburg is a great site to experience a true historical site with and items from the period. Portrayers, many of them historians, reenact historical figures, tradesmen and events. Carriage rides, food, and farm animals are entertaining. The ghost walk was fun.
