Season 3 of Boardwalk Empire is probably the best gangster storyline since Goodfellas and Casino, Bobby Cannavale's performance as Gyp Rossetti is masterful very under rated tv series.

Goodfellas one shot sequence I feel is probably the most riveting. I can't tell you how many times I've watched this movie. If I had a dollar for every time I had, I'd have that pile of money from the JFK heist, lol

It’s bold to compare the two films, considering the types of comments you have here. It’s crucial that you point out the fact that Goodfellas moves constantly to reflect the psychology of the main character. Sheeran was not like Hill, he was kind of reptilian in his emotionality and less self-aware. Hill was charging ahead full force, Sheeran was kind of creeping around in the shadows, killing without passion, totally cold-blooded. The films REQUIRE different energies. People who compare Goodfellas to The Irishman and say The Irishman sucks usually were just looking for more of the same whip-pans, coke freak outs and angry outbursts. They wanted the flash and the explosiveness of Goodfellas and Casino, but that would go against the nature of The Irishman. If Goodfellas was like The Searchers, then The Irishman is like Unforgiven. It’s a litigation on both the genre of gangster movies and on the deeper moral or even spiritual implications of what a gangster is, and the spiritual ruin that comes at the end of that life. The storytelling has to be more meditative and reflective. A lot of people only judge this film on the surface. If they’re not smacked in the face every 20 seconds with flashy gangster action, they think that’s an indication of low quality. They need to watch more films.

Everybody played along saying The Irishman was good because Scorsese made it. It's his worst movie by far. It's just not good. Casino and Goodfellas are in another level, both are masterpieces.

Goodfellas is a classic of cinema whereas Irishman is a bloated boring embarrassment and staying on Scorsese DeNiro and Pacino's careers. 2/5 at best.
