It is a nice touch that the script kept having Melvin trying to come up with lines, he writes romance novels, that is his job! He tries applying these lines and half the time they backfire as soon as the calculating nature is revealed.

5:50 she is like: cmon, continue with your cheesy lines. But then he backs his admission with examples that he really watched her, truly appreciates her as a human being. And the acting… how Helen becomes flabbergasted at first and then teary — this brings a tear to my eye too. I mean, there are many good people whose goodness is sometimes not observed or acknowledged by other people and they are left to live sad lives. Beautiful movie, a masterpiece. Fully deserved Oscars in the year when Titanic has swept almost all awards. I continue coming back to rewatch scenes from the movie or even the full movies when I feel so
