September, Poem by Hermann Hesse

The garden mourns,
the cool rain sinks into the flowers.
Summer shudders quietly awaiting its end.

Gold drips leaf on leaf fall from
the high acacia tree.
Summer smiles, astonished, and feeble
in the dying garden dream.

For just a while he tarries beside the roses
and stays standing.
Longing for repose,
slowly he closes his wearied eyes.
