We have some newly digitized film to add to our vintage county fair video collection. CBS 8 introduced color film in 1966 but black and white film was still in use in 1967. The June film is in living color and July is black and white. It’s very exciting as this is the first film we’ve had digitized using state of the art technology, courtesy of Pea Hicks. Amazing to see crystal clear images of the San Diego County Fair so very long ago.

This was picture day at the county fair. Don Diego--Tommy Hernandez--and the Fairest of the Fair and her court posed today for photographers. The girls took a short run over to the flower show…which has 50 percent more entries this year as compared to 1966. This young lady got the point from whoever set up the cactus gardens. We wind up our picture tour of the fairgrounds on this delightful device, called the scrambler; one of the attractions at the fair’s midway. Some 400,000 persons are expected this year for the 12 day run.

The San Diego County Fair at Del Mar winds up today with a Fourth of July crowd estimated at some 34 thousand. The highlight of today’s spectacular will be a fireworks display at 9 pm in front of the grandstand. This—the 78th annual county fair—has run 12 days, making it the longest one held to date. Attendance for the entire run is expected to top four-hundred thousand, a record. If today doesn’t top it, last Sunday’s crowd of 48,789 will take the prize as the biggest single day. The shorter, 11-day exposition held last year attracted over 350,000 persons in its shows, displays, and Midway.
