Canon V1 Preview: WHAT IS THIS CAMERA???

This is a PREVIEW of the Canon PowerShot V1, a compact point-and-shoot video-centric camera. We don't have much to go on right now other than what Canon USA shared with us. They did not share images or a press release, just some specs and answered some questions. I thought it was a worthy camera to share what we know so far. When we get our hands on one, we will make our full review. Until then, here's the preview.

Going to pick one up this week. Perfect point & shoot to keep in my bag at all times. Not a Mobile Camera phone fan (At all)! Best preview on YouTube for this camera. Pretty versatile camera. Heard about a SONY RX100 m8 soon? I'm sure it will be closer to $2k grand!

I was thinking of selling my RX100VI for this but the lack of an EVF, f2.8 aperture, and zoom range doesn't make it an upgrade for me.

Can you change the lens? No? Oh only my MFT camera is small light and has interchangeable lenses (oh, and my sensor is backside illuminated and stacked too)…I feel the resurrection power!

Happy to hear they plan to come out with sth like that. Afraid no IBIS and 18-50 full frame equivalent sounds nice. TBH, they are late to the party but if they bring it, I will go for it, especially if there’s a mic jack and cooling. Thanks for sharing, have a great week 😊

I'm not the target for this but I'm just glad Canon has a serious vlogging camera low. C-Log 3 on a M43-ish sensor with IS is gonna look great.

Thanks Jared, yes I agree 200% pixel deep mode on your evf point of view, that's one of the things that the g7x ii was missing. Anyway glad that they are trying to hear out on my point of view the needs of contemporary compacts. Rock on

You said its not a photo camera but would pictures be better than g7x line? What point and shoot camera do you recommend for photos?

I'm intrigued with this, yes I have my phone when I want wider shots if the 100-400 is on my R10, I'm in a wheelchair and can't always be doing swapping lenses as it's too much faff. I would primarily use it for stills, as I use an insta 360x4 for my railway stuff now as it's just so simple. I'd love to see this come in at £699 to £749, but I think that's wishful thinking.
