This 787-8 Dreamliner operated by Ethiopian Airlines took off from Libreville Leon M'ba Airport but faced some issues to retract the landing gears !

Most probably has one or two wheel brakes deactivated (aircraft still airworthy) but the gear has to be left down for 2 minutes for the wheels to stop rotating before retraction.

Did they come back to land? Because that aircraft is ET-AUO, a 787-9, NOT a -8.

The -9 has a mechanism that keeps the gear doors open as soon as it is in the air.

"To improve aircraft performance on the 787-9 and 787-10, one second after the aircraft detects that it is airborne, the main landing gear doors automatically open. This happens even before the pilots select the landing gear lever to the up position. This action may seem random but it is done quite deliberately."


Judging from the video, it just looks like they retracted the gear late which is a common practice used to cool the brakes, especially after a short turnaround from the previous flight. Assuming the plane in the video did not make an emergency landing right after.
