Paul Newman met and married his first wife Jackie Witte in 1949. In 1954, Paul Newman made his first appearance on the big screen, and he was a star by the end of the decade. In 1953, Paul met Joanne Woodward while the pair was working together on a Broadway play by the name of Picnic. Paul was instantly taken with Joanne, but she didn’t feel the same way. I met them both and performed closeup magic for them one evening at the Magic Castle in Hollywood. He was very low key, humble, kind and totally in love with his wife. I must say that Joanne was a stunning woman. Clearly she did not photograph well. She was every inch the lady and very gracious. I was not surprised to find that she practiced ballet daily. I have very fond memories of that night!

I don't think she's any too furious about any affair at this point, as she's been suffering with advanced Alzheimer's dementia for the last few years and, according to their daughters, doesn't recognize them and has no memory of her marriage. Her days of being angry about anything he may or may not have done ended long ago.

Joanne is now to be suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and his 2 daughters from his first wife and his 2 daughters from Joanne are said to be embroiled in a bitter battle for control of the estate. His one daughter, who was very involved in the creation and running of Neuman’s Own brand has been pushed aside by the individual who now runs the company.

Rumors! Not our place to judge him and his long marriage, one of the longest ones in Hollywood history. Sadly, he lost his only son to drugs and that fueled his very successful humanitarian efforts!
