In this video, Rene "TheWakko" will go over the 5 bad habits he sees players develop when doing extensive work with solvers. While there is a lot we can learn from solvers, we often use and interpret this knowledge incorrectly. By the end of this video, you'll be able to fix these leaks in your approach, start increasing your win rate, and make more money! Enjoy!

This was an excellent video - After working with so many of the new school players, one of the biggest things I have noticed is the vast majority of them have never even thought about where their ev is coming from or how to actually generate it. I really liked the ending scene and you can put my vote down to " They have lower win rates because they are trying to play gto". GTO/Solvers are an incredibly powerful tool full of useful information. The problem is when you start trying to out source your own thinking to GTO/Solvers - You get put into a mentally shackled mindset over time without even realizing it. Well done!

In my opinion, the ONLINE winrates have decreased over the years, because the players got a better understanding of the game in general, thanks to GTO solvers. The edges just become closer and closer over time. At least at the top level in online poker. Therefore it might be more important then ever, to focus on an exploitive playstyle, than just a GTO approach. Intuition is still a thing, and will ever be. Sometimes it might be the best to take the knowledge you got from the solvers, but your own creativity, to invent some off-beat lines and trow your opponent off!

Thank you! One of the most important video for me. Before studying GTO I had 10bb/100, but after only 5bb/100.

I started losing when I started listening to the GTO nerds. lol.

Then one day I asked myself “how would the salver play if it knew your opponent’s tendencies” and the answer is NOTHING like it does.

You can see how dramatic it changes when you node lock one street. If you went through the entire tree and node locked for the tendencies the strategy would look NOTHING like GTO. It would look much more like Phil Ivey. :)

The first line is just oxymoronic, it's a zero sum game. The better the tools, the better everyone plays, the lower the average winrate. There's no contradiction at all.
Having said that, I enjoyed the video :D

I would say they are winning less because the field is playing better. And the sites are creating an ecosystem in which the professionals winnings are capped. Take GG for example, every reg on HS wins more from the RB because GG rake is absurdly high and they give back to you whatever they want to. In tournaments you have this max late reg problem in which the field increaes as much as 800% in the last minute. What ROI could you expect in a field filled with profesionals playing 7bb poker?

You know the average winrate of regs depends only on rake, number of fish and fish lossrate, not how they play against one another?

I remember one bitb podcast with ishter11 where he mentioned games are more polarized, meaning you have less variety in regulars abilities nowadays (either a good reg or a fish, instead of good reg, ok reg, bad reg and fish). If this is the case, then unless the number of fish increased, by definition the winrates of the former good regs have to had go down. Because if everyone is good, good is the new average :) But he plays mid-high, I play lowstakes on stars (50nl main limit) and this is not what either data tell me, nor my perception. No real changes in what the good regs make, bad regs still abound, still plenty of fish. Just how the games play changed really.

WR are lower I am guessing because less Fish, more rake and yes people being more solid in nodes especially defensive ones due to strategies developed by Theory study and MDA.

I think there is just less money in poker in general, the cost of living has gone through the roof and salaries have made no progress in the last 5-10 years. So whereas before people had hundreds if not thousands of extra dollars they could dust off on sites, the same can no longer be said.

I play MTTs on Stars and the most extreme example I can give you is a tourney that used to be 30k guaranteed and regularly hit 40k, nowdays its a 4k guaranteed and if its a really good day it may hit 6-7k. Obviously not all tournaments are that bad, but most have seen a drastic reduction. The players have gotten better, but in general there's just WAYYY less fish (like stupidly fewer).

People are losing online because they play scared and get pushed off hands easily
