The Most BORING Next-Gen Nintendo Switch 2 Report...

Let's go over a new Nintendo Switch 2 report that literally tells us almost nothing.

I’d prefer more real sounding leaks that just double down on what we’ve heard and think it’ll be than these wild, uncredited, unclear reports that just get people to expect something unrealistic.

There is such a misconception with console generations, with this report and responses on Twitter acting like PS5/XBSX started the generation and so the Switch successor will release 4 years into the generation. The truth that media doesn’t want to recognize is that Switch started the 9th generation, it’s Nintendo’s 9th generation console so it’s PS5/XBSX that launched 3 years into the 9th generation. The Switch successor will start and be Nintendo’s 10th generation. WiiU was 8th generation, the Switch was its successor not a mid generation refresh. What did they actually mean by mid-cycle cause I took it as mid generation.

2D Mario sells more than Spider-Man and that’s a big hitter for Sony so SMBWonder is definitely a big hitter.

Most of this information is what we were all guessing anyway. The backwards compatibility question is just panic. Phil Spencer said it…people are going to go where their digital library is. If Nintendo calls it a Switch 2 without backwards compatibility, they will betray the trust of consumers. ALL competitors, from rival consoles, to PCs and smartphones are backwards compatible with previous generations of software. It’s an expectation.

I can’t go back to a Switch 2 without an OLED display. I play only in handheld so the OLED really hits for me.

The OLED switch has 64gb of storage. I bet the next one has 128gb. Hopefully 256gb is where it starts. But phones just started with 256 so safely saying 128gb

7:15 Correction: The Switch did not release mid cycle of that current generation (PS4/XBONE), it released 3 years before this current gen. So the Switch 2 will not release nearly 4 years after the current gen, it'll be the first Next generation console.

I wouldnt call... physical cartridges confirmed, LCD screen to cut costs, prioritizing greater internal storage, hybrid system confirmed, and 2nd half 2024 launch window confirmed... "nothing".

Everyone is corroborating this. Eurogamer, Game Informer, Gematsu, ign, everyone.

Btw--the lcd screen claim does match up with the report on Sharp [a known longtime Nintendo collaborator] manufacturing new lcd screens for a game console from earlier this year.

Getting a dev kit does not give you any information on the launch product apart form CPU, GPU and Memory specs. At best this is guess work. The final release screen and backwards compatibility are not something you will get from the dev kit especially not an early version of the kit.

I hope reverting to a LCD screen is false. Like you said OJ, the OLED model isn’t that much more expensive than the base. Nintendo can implement a similar $50 difference next gen - I’m sure many would opt for that model for the premium screen, it’s such a great improvement over LCD.

It’s a good time to be a gamer. Never during Nintendo Switch’s lifetime has there been a drought and I think NS2 is going to be comparable. Stoked for the future.
