Closest to original GM carb, I'd rebuild it, be sure to remember though not to puncture through center of gasket where air cleaner bolt runs through, it can create a bad vacuum leak, Have fun I remember I did when my Pops tought me.

Rebuild it.
I have a bunch of them, lots of parts. They are one of the best carbs built, In my opinion.

Q-Jet, definitely rebuild, my favorite carburetor back in the day, one thing I didn’t know was that they were Edelbrock

Nothing like that the sound of a quadrajet when you step on it and sound like they could suck air filters in. Old school 4 barrels are still my cup of tea. 👍

I personally love Q-jets for the main reason they offroad very well at angles

If you rebuild it, you better have excellent experience in case you miss replacing one of the items that could be important in the carburetor kit. If you have the money, use it.

I'd be enterested in purchasing after rebuild if set up with the linkage with the 700r4 linkage

Rebuild it! If memory serves, Edelbrock bought the tooling to make them! Great carburetor.

Always rebuild/fix if cost effective (throttle shafts /bush and option)?

The main thing is that they are very flimsy. Check the throttle base for warping and for throttle shaft wear. A base is not sold as a whole replacement. Check the core plug in the main body for leaking. One repair job with JB weld is about it . Another layer can crack and it’s done. Wiggly vacuum ports, a loose primary vacuum seal for the power piston can create a surge. Rods and power piston seals of good quality are getting rare. The 800 AVS is a better choice. In passing, make sure on any carb use the lightest spring . Too stiff of a spring and today’s gas can wear the throttle shaft to where it’s junk. Holleys are much better. But any carb cast be a fools game without care. EFI like the new TBI one are too expensive, Right Now, but soon the price will. I would trash it and tune a new Holley/ Edel Brock
Carb/ EFi hybrid. A 780 style annular with an air / fuel meter and no choke blade and real Bernoulli Venturis. You will likely spend as much on that Qjet as the new Edel/Holley new. That said put an O2 sensor in the collectors and a vacuum and air/fuel gauge. A 50 year old annular 735 Holley off of a 428 CJ and the tuning gauges and sensors as a DIY, I ran it legally in C/SA and stood the front up on a 68 Mustang and tripped the lights in the mid 10s. A 10.6 CR and a roller cam turned a turtle in nto a T- Rex. I m blind now. But a well tuned OEM Holley is hard to beat.

Edelbrock, if they offer a rebuild kit, rebuild it! Otherwise your swapping an intake manifold and fuel pump to swap to a Holley!

Great carbs if you fix the leaky jet wells with epoxy(all of them) and check the top and make sure it's flat.

I would expect an Edelbrock Qjet to have a great tune to it, why would you toss that? Its a keeper. Probably support 500 HP.

you've always been saying how great edelbrock's product support is. Time to put that to the test since these are no longer in production.
