Wrong. It was the Wilson brothers who founded the band. Mike was just hired to be a singer. His songwriting contributions were minimal as Brian was the creative genius behind the band. What David Crosby said for the most part is true. Mike can carry a tune but really Love is a talentless jerk. If he weren't a cousin of the Wilson's he'd be a retired insurance agent in Torrance, California. Get your facts straight. Pet Sounds has no surf oriented songs. It started a whole new career path for the band as they went for a more sophisticated sound.

Mike love is a great lyricist. He held the BB’s together when times got tough. Mike totally understands his fan base. Psychedelic music is not The Beach Boys sound. Mikes music like on for centuries. Mike is a great performer and artist.

Saw The Beach Boys when I was in college. The Lovin' Spoonful opened for them and blew them away. When they came out they played a short set and Mike Love (how did this guy get the name "Love"?) made it clear to the audience that he was very unhappy with the audience response. I've never forgotten what a jerk he was. A few years later we saw the Eagles (then up and coming) open for the Boys. They also blew the BBs away. After the Eagles set, the Boys made us wait for an hour until they came out. Beethoven symphonies played on the PA. Beethoven was a better musician...and a better surfer! (Brian Wilson did not perform at either of these concerts.)
