I often get annoyed at Nintendo for their stupid decisions but they still produce good games. To suggest they are worse than EA or Activision is ludicrous.

To be clear, patents are THE ONLY WAY to protect game mechanics and it's really difficult and expensive to get one.
What you can't do is copyright or trademark mechanics.
And to further clarify, patents, copyrights, and trademarks are all very different things that have their own laws governing them.

Whoever wrote this is just a jealous crybaby. No company is perfect, Nintendo has pretty much been the same throughout the last 30 years. If you compare them to other markets and industries, they arent really that cutthroat at all. It is not easy for a console to be around and relevant for 40 years now. This was blown out of proportion. Activision is a joke though, and EA is about as money hungry as you can be.

We all like to think Nintendo is some kind of bastion of player goodwill, but at the end of the day they are a business, and a shrewd one at that. You don't survive as long as they have, through several failed devices, having lost millions (possibly billions) multiple times and doing battle against the likes of Sony and Microsoft without being aggressive in some respects. I do think Nintendo loves its players and fans, but they are not going to stop being a business or doing what they thing is the best balance of "good for the players but good for us". Let your guard down too much and for too long and Nintendo goes into the dustbin of history.

A video game company has one job, make good video games. Nintendo regularly does this. EA, well need I say more, and Activision they have people who like Call of Duty. All the rest is bull SH*T that doesn't matter to customers. All these politics and how companies are run, I don't care!

Not defending Nintendo but, patenting game mechanics isn’t new. WB did the same with the “nemesis system” in Shadows of War, about a decade ago.

I’m sorry but I think, if someone genuinely think that Nintendo is worse than EA and Activision, they gotta have a severe case of recency bias, a short term memory concerning game industry controversies, lack a sense of severity when comparing controversies, or just have a heavy bias against Nintendo. Nintendo does make a lot of decisions that hinder game preservation and community engagement (which sucks). But, come on man, let’s be serious here. They are definitely not worse than EA and Activision.

I like how people who clearly have not been engaged in high level business to this day criticize Nintendo for the exclusivity contracts of the 1980's. Be honest if you had a opportunity to tap into an underutilized market you are going to want to clear the way for yourself to operate unimpeded for as long a period of time as you could muster. No one is going to invite uncertainty into their business ventures if they can help it. No one honestly wants competition in business, most of us just deal with it because we have to. How does this make Nintendo bad?

Nintendo is great because you grow up playing their games, then you buy the new console to your kids and this keep hapenning over and over again, because the firsty party games of Nintendo they really do put a lot of effort to be fun and that's why i like Nintendo just to have fun for more serious games i use my Playstation 5 for Resident Evil 4, God Of War etc...

Knowing that this post was on something like 4chan makes more funny because almost everything there is outdated while the rest has a hint of fake stuff in.

Cmom, saying Nintendo backstabbed Sony over the snes CD is crazy, when Sony wanted most of the money over Nintendo just so they can be "buddies".

Don't even talk about the Palworld case, an ex dev already told that the CEO of Pocketpair forced him to copy Pokemon even thought he wanted to created something original, and the reason was just money.

But yeah, dude is right, Nintendo is somehow worse than EA and Activision, let's us really belive that.
