What a disaster. We need to be governed by principles and fairness...not by money.

I've never voted Labour, but I will this time just to get the reforms past the post.
I am utterly disgusted with the Conservatives.

Very disappointing news - the ordinary man is being blatantly ripped off.

Doesn’t matter who you vote for, politicians always going to look after the interests of those ones who, ,pay the bill" and we, the ordinary people, aren't in this list!

Every other country has fixed that or never ever had such a stupid thing as leasehold. I was going to buy a leasehold flat, but the management company and the freeholder said firstly I would buy the flat and after they will decide if they will give me permission for my pets. So if they not, I will lose my money or I will have to abandon my pets? What a horrible country is that? Such a mess. On Friday, I said I withdraw from buying it. Are we in the Middle Ages and we will be at the mercy of the landlords and the government? Also, the ground rent was £360 and it will increase in 2026. I wouldn't be able to sell it. I am sure huge problems are coming in the future for those who own leasehold flats.

If Pension fund concerns are such a major factor for leasehold reform it beggars belief how this has only surfaced at this very late stage ... this government is about as flimsy as my internet connection 🐌

I don’t think we should worry because conservatives will not come back in power again, so we have labour to rely on we mustn’t give up hope

I thought final reading was on Wednesday? Absolute disastrous though. They’re trying to lose this election. Thank god.

Don’t be too hasty to say these reforms have been entirely shelved, there is still time for something to be passed and brought in to the benefit of leaseholders.

Step number 1, get rid of private pension funds and make it all government, like it used to be, or at least a majority share.

Step number 2, get rid of all private -public- infrastructure owners, and give ownership back to the government (the people) like it used to be. this includes water, gas, electric, health, and education, or at least a majority share.

Step 3 get rid of the unelected Lords.

Then after all these are done, Step 4 get rid of leaseholds.

Overwise this will never pass.

This is absolutely heartbreaking!! I’ve hung onto every word you’ve said as you’ve shed some light on a complex matter. I’m facing financial ruin as my lease will cost in the region of £30k. I’d hoped for a watered down marriage value, but that now seems unlikely. Best buy a lottery ticket and hope for the best! Naturally I don’t blame you, but with 51 years left, I’m seriously worried

When I moved into my own property in 2017 I was faced with the only option to move into a leasehold property if I want to stay in Bethnal Green where I was born and lived most of my life. So, after much heartache I decided to move further out into Essex to buy a freehold which had good transport links to central london using the Elizabeth line which takes up to 32 mins. Leasehold is a joke and a rip off. But if you have no choice and move into one of these properties it’s better if you can find a share of freehold in a small residential block of flats, no more then 2 floors without lifts to reduce maintenance costs. Moving into a small residential block of flats that are owned by the residents and NOT a greedy landlord, so you can chose you’re own management company to keep costs at the bare minimum. Not so easy though in practice.

I've just had the cladding works done to my building and that took years. I thought I saw light at the end of the tunnel and be able to sell and move on then realised I had an issue with high ground rend (304pa). Now looks like i'm going to have to extend my lease and that's been quoted at around 15k and take up to 12 months to do. Devestated.
