2006 IC CE CE200 VT365 school bus startup, pre-trip, drive POV

Показать описание
Hello, school bus geeks! Here's the morning routine on this well-weathered CE with air brakes and 6-speed Allison automatic transmission, in its last year of service here in northern New Jersey. Everything pretty much works properly on the bus, with the speedometer being a notable exception - the video starts with a clip of a GPS speedometer on my phone vs. the bus's speedometer, to head off any comments of "you're speeding!"

It's obvious who my employer is, and almost as obvious where the bus yard is. Please do not comment with these items.

0:00 Speedometer comparison
0:12 Walking to bus
0:30 Pre-trip: preparation
0:55 Pre-trip: engine start, interior
2:37 Pre-trip: air brakes
4:27 Pre-trip: exterior
8:17 Deadheading to first pickup
24:47 Child check after last dropoff
25:20 Deadheading back to base
42:04 Verify child check alarm (weekly)

During the pre-trip, I discovered that the wristwatch I use for the air brake leak test stopped working.

FAQs

Why do you keep walking to the back of the bus?
- There is a child check alarm which arms itself one the bus is powered up for 5 minutes, or once you activate the red loading lights. This is disarmed via that button. To disable the anti-theft system as well, you have to go back to the front, cycle the key, and press it again.

Why is your yard such a mess?!
- We are not allowed to pave it due to local environmental issues, something to do with marshland. We get it re-graded every year or so, but the craters develop pretty quickly when there is rain or snow.

Sounds damn clean. Not even a shitty startup started right up sounding fresh.

Loved the video! Our 2008’s were sold in 2018, we kept 2 2007’s until late 2020.

Probably one of the best POV’s of a school bus I have ever seen

The bus is so pristine and even though the bus motor startup and the bus is clean and I hope the students can get on a bus and have field trip and the only one thing is they need to clean out the inside of the bus

I always thought school buses always looked the same for the past 50 years, no remodeling.

Great video! I especially love the beeping sounds, the air brake sounds, and the VT365 engine sounds.

how times have changed, back in the 80s when i rode the bus to school it was the local farmers who drove us, buses back then had non of that safety checklist or scanning to do lol

I like seeing the routines that the bus drivers go through. It’s very interesting for some reason lol. Great video! I hope to see a Thomas C2 POV soon!

when we are young, we laugh when the driver says "quiet !"... 25 years later, its us who ask to kid "be quiet !".... it may looks a monotone job but excluding the bus checkup, it looks a real job-dealing with everything from inside-kids to outside-environment... "(- . -)"

I love your video.. keep up the good work I understand your listing of what not to complain about but like to comment so others would know .. at each bus company or school district they may have different pre trip procedures.. ours was a bit more complex.. we had to inspect also under the hood and also physically and visually inspect the S cams on our buses with air brakes and also brake lines on our hydraulic brakes and also do a brake test not just dump the air like you did. also we had to inspect every light lens to make sure they are not cracked or broken or bulb burnt out.. including headlight, tail lamps and warning lights .. but also inspect each interior light too .. now we only had to check the seats to make sure no student is left behind twice but hit alarm once at end of the route only if the warning lights have been activated. if you made a dry run say to go fuel up the bus and not activate your warning lamps no need to reset the child check warning system .. again as I stated each company or school district is different and have different rules. we did not have the electronic device you had to click on with the zonar system.. have a happy and safe driving with your bus

At 8:35 you can hear the diesel-electric locomotive of a NJ Transit commuter train rolling into the station alongside the yard

i must say the VT365 sounds wayy more aggressive than the powerstroke counterpart of it! not only that you have the distinctive whine from that Alison! i could drive this bus all day and not get sick of those sounds!
