In a way winning the bronze medal match is better than losing in the final, which is always a possibility when coming up against a seemingly unstoppable American squad for Gold.

In that sense I'm glad LJ got a send off like this, the energy after the game was electric and befitting of celebrating the contribution LJ has made to basketball not just in Australia but around the world.

Hope one day FIBA releases more footage from her past outings in the green and gold to honour that legacy PLEASE! Would love to see it <3

Watching this in July 2024 as this is actually not LJ's last game with the Opals lol. Her interview on Sheryl Swoopes's podcast Queens of the Court is really good as she talked through her process in un-retiring again and coming back to play one more time in the Paris Olympics. It's mind boggling to think she played in the 2000 Sydney Olympics against all the WNBA legends on Team USA and is still playing 24 years later.

If the opals coach put her in during that last 3.4 seconds versus China and devised a play where the ball would be lobbed into LJ in the paint. LJ would have either made the shot or fished for a foul that would have sent her to the line. Lauren Jackson could have saved that game for Australia versus China if that last play was designed for her. And the Opals would be playing versus the USA for the Gold.
