Permaculture Garden Tour #1: First Year (2019) Spring

Показать описание
This is my garden in early spring of 2019. We just hauled in new mulch from the city. The chicken run was in this location just a couple months prior. We moved the chicken run, tilled the soil, and allowed the soil to rest for a couple months. Volunteer cherry tomato plants came up from tomatoes we fed the chickens when they were in this area previously. We harvested cherry tomatoes from this spot to feed the chickens again from this spot. We would eat some as well. We didn't place tomato cages nor trellis them up as we had not yet purchased them. We would have had even more tomatoes had we done so. Then we have a view of the chickens in the run, and from time to time, we let them out to eat pests in the garden. Next to the run, are squash seedlings I grew from seed purchased from Johnny's, store-bought pie pumpkin from previous fall, and seeds from Sprouts. Then, we show the paved area with a little chair that is the start of the children's garden. We sowed corn seeds, hollyhock seeds, sunflower seeds, borage seeds, sweet pea seeds, and tomato seeds around the children's garden to give them a shady spot to hang out once the plants grow tall and thicken. There is an area of tall oats that has stacked functions. We use these oats to feed chickens, collect seeds from, and till over as green manure later. There is an area where we grew borage for the first time. The wooden structure is our first time growing sweet potatoes in a potato tower. Lesson to be learned: sweet potatoes would grow better if straw was stacked on top of the potatoes rather than soil. There is a plastic sheet on the ground to solarize that area of crab grass (smother weeds). The milk jugs in the back corner are filled with harvested rainwater that was beginning to overflow from the rain barrels.
