4K | Could Qantas Get Any Worse Than This? Probably Yes! Check Out Singapore to Sydney on QF2 A380

In this trip report, we take you through our experience flying with Qantas in Business Class from Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) to Sydney (SYD) on an Airbus A380-800 (QF2).

Rather than the usual Qantas First Lounge at Changi Airport, we chose the British Airways Lounge, known for its tranquility and comfort. This lounge was previously a joint venture between Qantas and British Airways as a First Class lounge, but Qantas later aligned itself with Emirates.

Once onboard the flight, you'll encounter the newly refurbished Qantas Business Suites cabin, but you may find the inflight meal service disappointing, as it falls short of what you might expect even from an economy class product offered by other airlines. Service was nearly non-existent, aside from the moments when my meals were handed to me. However, I found it preferable that they left me in peace rather than providing a less-than-pleasant attitude.

Amidst all the negative press, it's debatable whether Qantas feels the need to make a significant turnaround. Given its dominant position in the country, consumers have limited alternatives, leaving Qantas with a certain degree of freedom to operate as they see fit.

I have learned my lesson.

I am an Aussie and will never fly Qantas again after constant bad flights, poor service and food. Qantas is a very expensive airline to book and even though they get many complaints within Australia, nothing ever improves.

I worked as a Ground engineer at Qantas in the 80's when John Menadue was the CEO. A Chief Executive that cared for his staff and the airline customers. When I flew on other airlines and the cabin staff found out I worked for Qantas, a majority of them would tell me that working for Qantas was their dream job. We need more people like John Menadue running airlines and less people like Alan Joyce and his crew.

I gave up on Qantas after a terrible flight to Sydney from Johannesburg last September. Slapdash service and inedible food for 10k return business class. Never again. I've switched my loyalty to Singapore Airlines. I travel frequently and this has cost Qantas 60k per annum.

Excellent and succinct report. Flew QF Business Melb-Lon return in April 2022.- never again. Took 40 minutes to check in at Melb. Seat divider didn’t work, took 90 minutes for meal service - even after Premium Economy was served. Advised that they had run out of champagne before the plane took off. Ran out of wine, offered economy wine instead. The only redeeming experience was the Quantas lounge at Heathrow . I responded to the standard Customer Feedback and invited them to contact me to discuss, but surprise, surprise- no response. I got the impression that they couldn’t care less. This year I flew Singapore Business Mel-Lon return - a class above

The problem with Qantas was a CEO, Chairman & board looking after themselves instead of their customers & employees.

Great report! Yeah We flew QF business to Manila September 2022, and experienced similar limited food options. No hot towel, no tablecloth, no mattress cover and running out of options from row 2. The crew though were attentive and friendly on both forward and return flights. There is definitely a lot more food offered in Emirates economy compared to QF business! hope the new boss understands she has a lot to do to get QF back where it used to be, a real quality airline!

Can totally relate. Recently flew Qantas BNE to SIN return in Business. Flight out (a day flight) was superb. The return flight (overnight) was diabolical. The food menu was very similar, and totally awful. I had that same breakfast roll and the bread was stale and rock hard. I expected proper meal service, and was very underwhelmed. I have had far nicer food in Economy on other airlines. The flight attentants could not care less, and when Qantas sent me a survey about the flight I gave them my honest and respectful feedback. Did they bother to reply or contact me? Nope. It's such as sad state for them at the moment, Alan Joyce ruined Qantas, and his new lackie will be just as bad.

I flew with Qantas business last month from Jakarta - Melbourne on the A330 and had to admit the food was very average. Especially when I just flew with Turkish Business where they had a dedicated chef in Business class. Qantas need to improve their dramatically.

I went off Qantas in the late 1990's after flying British Airways, American and Lauda. It's been the same with the attendant button since then, even in business class.

Don't even think about it in economy.

I flew QF Singapore to Perth earlier in the year in business and it was basically the same but no PJs! Then they push the plant based option by having it first on the menu then only had, I kid you not, 4 of the chicken option for the entire 28 seat business cabin. I was in row 3 and they had ran out by the time they got to me. Subpar is right

I flew QF2 from Singapore to Sydney economy class a couple of weeks ago. I was unimpressed, particularly with the food and IFE choices and headphones. There are better airlines out there at similar prices.

I'm a disappointed Australian who was once a loyal customer. Not now. If I had paid for Business Class I would have expected much better service and food. Next year we are intending a UK/Europe trip in Bsiness Class but Qantas will not be the airline for me. At this point Singapore Airlines is more likely the airline I will use.

If that is Business Class, would hate to see Cattle Class. Alan Joyce destroyed Qantas, his whole goal was to reduce it to JetStar Standard, he achieved his goal spectacularly. As he rides off into the sunset with his $24m payout, what a bunch of mugs we are. I will never fly Qantas again.

A few years back I made two Qantas return flights; one was Brisbane-LA return, and the other from Brisbane to Auckland return. The LA flight was an opportunity to fly in the upper deck of a 747 before they were retired. The NZ flight was on a Jetconnect plane with a lousy, broken J class seat. The return flight was on an Emirates A380 with their lie flat bed. Service was very inconsistent on all flights and were bad enough to swear me off Qantas permanently. Emirates, Singapore, Etihad, Qatar and JAL became my choice for flights to Europe and Air NZ for trans-Pacific flights. Virgin have never let us down on 1-2 hour flights south. Qantarse now has a shocking reputation with pricing, delays, illegal sackings and stepping in with the Qatar flight debacle and the Voice referendum. I'll never step on board a QF plane again.

Hard to believe that Qantas has gone from one of the World’s best long haul airlines to near the bottom of the pack. I’m not particularly fussed about food on board, however what was shown here is in reality Premium Economy. I’m amazed about the poor service, good product there doesn’t cost extra to the airline but bad can cost them business. It’s been some time since I flew Qantas Business Class however on the strength of this review I won’t be in a hurry to go back.

Same here, I am an Ozzie and used Qantas regularly, however, I gave up on them 2 years ago due to crappy food and service. Never again. Qantas has become the Judas to the Australian people. Only fly now with Singapore Airlines, up price, but worth every penny.

As an Aussie I’d love nothing more than to travel with our national carrier. Qantas was once a great airline, an airline we could be proud of. Now that Alan Joyce has left the building (hope the door didn’t smack him in the back of the head on the way out), hopefully the reputation of the airline can begin to turn back around. Hopefully the new CEO worries less about political, woke agendas and more about transporting passengers around the globe in comfort, on time, not hungry and with their luggage without having to re-mortgage their homes. Incidentally the last time I travelled abroad (Sydney to London) we flew with Vietnam airlines. Their business class product was not perfect but it was bloody good. Nice food, nice wine, lay flat beds and all in 2 year old 787s and less than half the price Qantas was quoting. I certainly doubt Qantas was more than twice as good.

Sorry to say it but I flew QANTAS for work for 30 years. Now self employed this year I’ve done business class to Japan JAL (one leg back was Singapore Brisbane on a QANTAS flight and it was like premium eco at best), Business Class to HK on Singapore airlines and surprisingly Jetstar “business class” to Narita was the best service so far.
