Exterior of the Holy Monestry of Kipinas, Greece.

Let me show you the exterior of the Monastery. The Monastery was chiselled out of a mountain. The Monastery is located above the gorge of the Kalarrytikos in North Tzoumerka national park. Most of the material was taken from the surrounding mountains. The monastery is built of stones and wooden beams. The main structure was erected in 1212 AD. It is said that a group of monks who were ousted by the nearby Vyliza Monastery as they had a disagreement with their abbot. In search of a new place to build a monastery they found a cave and turned the cave into a fortress-like Monastery. The Monastery was dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
