Polish and Romanian Be Like

The Polish sound "y" is very similar to the Romanian sound "î," both of which often prove quite difficult to explain to non-native speakers.
This likeness lies in their pronunciation, where both sounds are articulated as a high, central, unrounded vowel, distinguishing them within their respective languages.

Try saying "KYIV" (Capital of Ukraine 🇺🇦). The "y" ("и") is pronounced as "I" in "itch".
(The media has problems with it ... They're getting better at it though.) 😊

"Kyїv" is pronounced as: "Ky-yeev", where at the first "y" you drop your jaw down. And the áccent is on the FIRST syllable.

The SECOND syllable, "KY-YIV'... - yeev" sounds like the SECOND SYLLABLE in the word "NAЇVE".
